Supporting USO Georgia

AVVBA has partnered with the USO Council of Georgia since January 2005, providing volunteers and cash donations on a monthly basis to support the wonderful men and women of our armed forces and their family members as they pass through the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

To date, our association has contributed more than 17,500 volunteer hours and almost $150,000 in cash donations in direct support to the USO and our Troops.

We have been supporting various USO activities for more than 15 years and are proud to continue helping the USO grow in their mission. Over the years AVVBA has helped give the USO at the airport a facelift, published letters in the paper soliciting support and helped our younger veterans transition to civilian life through the Hire Heroes USA program. Our USO commitment includes providing volunteers wherever they are needed.

In 2005, seven AVVBA members and one spouse deployed to Gulfport/Biloxi, MS during November and December as USO volunteers in support of Hurricane Katrina disaster relief operations.
In 2006, two AVVBA members deployed separately to the Bagram AFB USO in Afghanistan as volunteers for a total of 90 days. In this same year, one AVVBA member deployed to the Camp Buehring USO in Kuwait as a volunteer for 60 days.
In 2007, AVVBA volunteers conducted a "Support Our Troops" fund-raising project by parking cars at some 82 Atlanta Braves home games and collecting more than $40,000 for the Georgia USO.

We are committed to providing two volunteer teams per month to work at the USO. Once the current USO renovations are completed and it is deemed safe for our volunteers to return, we will be back to our volunteering business as usual.
