For at least eight years, the Knights of Columbus Council #10633 from St. Benedict Catholic Church in Johns Creek, Ga., has included the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association as one of its six major charitable recipients from their annual charity golf tournament designed to raise significant funds for veterans in need.
Donations from this annual golf tournament go directly to organizations that provide clothing for homeless veterans, support the families of those wounded in combat, support widows of those killed in action, assist unemployed veterans, PTSD counseling, and provide educational opportunities, to name a few targeted programs.
This year’s tournament was held at the St. Ives Country Club in Johns Creek for the second year in a row. One of the celebrities attending this event was Larry Nelson, a popular PGA golfer, member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, and a Vietnam veteran.
In presenting the $8,000 check to the AVVBA, Nicholas Hallas, golf tournament chairman and member of Council #10633 emphasized the continued support from local businesses throughout the year that have generously contributed to this event. These businesses, along with a large number of Knights and veterans who volunteered their support, are the secret behind this annual tournament’s success.
The AVVBA will earmark these funds toward the AVVBA Foundation Veterans Scholarship Program, which is partnering with the George State University Foundation to provide annual scholarships in perpetuity.
